1.1. Text removed from TopFAQ list

The following text has been removed from the TopFAQ list to shorten it and is being parked here for future use or reference {nid 6J}

There are three types of e-names, each of which begin with a single symbol:

      Personal  =Mary.Smith
      Business/Organizational   @Smith.and.Company
      General   +flowers {nid 6A}

E-numbers start with the same symbols as e-names followed by a colon (note that they are not strictly numbers, since they may also contain letters and some punctuation): {nid 6B}

      Personal  =:1234.5678.ABCD
      Business and Organizational       @:1001
      General   +:506/:39.87

An i-number maps to the registrant's account at an XDI service provider, called a e-broker.

These and many other services that depend on persistent identity and trusted data interchange are described in [The Social Web] white paper.

Before these services can be launched, XDI.ORG will be publishing the first XDI.ORG Global Services specifications for open public review. These specifications should be ready by late summer. To contribute to these specifications, please see the [XDI.ORG wiki]. To be notified about each step in the process, please subscribe to the [XDI.ORG Announce mail list.]

(Note if real-world name changes, a person or organization may choose to change their i-name(s), but their i-number(s) can remain persistent.

While this is similar to wireless number portability, a wireless phone number is only portable with country in which it originates.
